At Devon Meadows Primary School, we promote student wellbeing by fostering positive relationships, encouraging student voice and agency, and maintaining high expectations for all learners. We create a safe, welcoming, and inclusive classroom environment while helping students develop social and emotional skills. Additionally, we support students in building a positive attitude toward themselves, their school, and civic engagement. These skills and attitudes are key to enhancing academic engagement and success. Supporting student wellbeing is embedded in classroom learning experiences every day and students will participate in a variety of programs and approaches such as Play is the Way, Respectful Relationships, School Values and Zones of Regulation.
Play is the Way
Play is the Way is a social and emotional learning (SEL) approach using interactive games, 5 guiding concepts, and 6 key virtues to foster empathy. Students learn the guiding concepts through discussions and games played as a class or in small groups.
Respectful Relationships
Respectful Relationships is a government program that supports schools to promote and model respect, positive attitudes and behaviours. It teaches our children how to build healthy relationships, resilience and confidence.
Zones of Regulation
The Zones of Regulation is a framework that helps students recognize and manage their feelings, energy, and alertness levels. It teaches self-regulation, prosocial skills, and wellness through four color-coded Zones. By understanding these Zones, students can use strategies to manage emotions, achieve goals, and build healthy relationships.
Seasons for Growth
Seasons for Growth is an education program that uses the metaphor of the seasons to help students understand grief, loss, and change. It provides a supportive peer group environment where students build communication, decision-making, and problem-solving skills. This program is an intervention, not counseling or psychotherapy, and is available to selected students each term through teacher referrals.
