Physical Education Teacher:
Leigh Stewart
At Devon Meadows Primary School, students participate in a 60-minute Physical Education (PE) lesson and an additional 60-minute Sport session each week. PE lessons focus on enhancing fitness, skill development, and engagement across a range of sports and activities.
For junior students (Prep–Grade 2), the emphasis is on developing Fundamental Movement Skills- including running, catching, throwing, kicking, and striking, which provide the foundation for future sporting success. Middle school students build on these skills by applying them in modified games that promote teamwork and game sense. Senior students refine their individual techniques and apply them in both familiar sports, such as football and basketball, and unfamiliar sports, like volleyball and hockey.
Additionally, Foundation students participate in the Perceptual Motor Program (PMP), which helps improve their coordination, balance, and overall fitness. Grade 6 students take on leadership roles as House Captains, assisting with PMP sessions, coordinating school sporting events, and supporting lunchtime competitions.
Interschool Sport
Students in grades 3-6 have the opportunity to represent our school at interschool events. D.M.P.S is part of the Cranbourne South District and students have the opportunity to represent the school at District, Divisional, Regional and State Level in: Athletics, Cross Country, Swimming, Summer and Winter Sports. Although D.M.P.S is the smallest school in the Cranbourne South District we have had a great deal of success over the past few years.
